Their Eyes Were Watching God Essay example - 1155 Words

Zora Neale Hurston was born on January 7, 1891, in Notasulga, Alabama. Her writing career began at Howard University where she published her first story in 1921. In 1925, Zora moved to New York where she became one of the many writers of the Harlem Renaissance. Her life experiences in Eatonville and her research into black folklore greatly impacted much of her writing skills and techniques. In Zora Neale Hurston’s novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, the character known as Janie is faced with some difficult relationships with three men forcing her to find out who she really is as a woman and what she wants to be. Although this is all fine for him, Janie in the mean time is not happy with the relationship and struggles to deal w ith it. Over the years Janie places all of her old dreams into the corner of her soul. She submits to Jodys need for control on the outside but on the inside she hides her real feelings and her real self. At one of the town meetings someone asks for a â€Å"few words uh encouragement from Mrs. Mayor Starks† and Joe replies buy saying, â€Å"Thank yuh fuh yo’ compliments, but mah wife don’t know nothin’ ‘bout no speech-makin’. Ah never married her for nothin’ lak dat. She’s uh woman and her place is in de home†(41) After hearing this from Joe, Janie feels as though, â€Å"that took the bloom off of things†(41). She is no longer truly in love with him anymore. After Joe dies, Janie feels free for the first time in years. Janie is in the room when Joe dies and soon after, she walks across the room to the mirror and tells herself that she, â€Å"The young girl was gone, but a handsome woman had taken her place†( 83). Janie becomes a more independently thinking woman after his death because she doesn’t have the restriction that Joe forced on her. Our current economy ND civilization is unstable. The CA emissions, reproduction rates, and food production is alarming. In the lecture it stated that â€Å"estimates are that global demand is now 30% higher than that which is sustainable. In today’s world where money rules everything around us, It owns our politicians, and decides what laws are passed, we need to ensure that the decisions that need to be made In our best interest, and not in the best Interest of those who have the most. I try to implement CEO-friendly ideals, but it is hard to stay at it because it is tiring and too much work. Every day a new study that shows you should not do something you have been doing for years, and it is tiring to keep up with. In my workplace we buy high efficiency light bulbs, recycle everything Imaginable, drive CEO-friendly cars, and support local greenhouses. My personal finances are not the same. Juggling Work, School, and Family free essay sample

When I decided to go back to school, I realized it would have a lot of consequences and not only for me, but also on my family and maybe also my daily job. I work a fulltime job; I’m married and have a daughter and a son still living with me. With all that considered, I had to work out all the possible effects it would have on all the effects it may have. I work as an â€Å"accounts receivable analyst†, what is a very demanding job, and I had to make sure that no matter what, my daytime job did not sacrifice. Although my company they willing to support me to go back to school and also paying for it, they still expect that all my duties are done at the end of the day, and so far I manage to do so. I started with classes online only, thinking that it was easier to manage time, but it still took more time than what I had planned, and my family did not liked that it the beginning at all. One example of them was that they had to provide their own meal several times a week, and they were not used to do that. One consequence of working and going to school at the same time is that we had to sit down and made a schedule, but unfortunately that is not always working out, if I have to study longer than planned or sometimes important things will come up, what it makes it necessary to change the schedule. My family does not always handle that the in a way I would like for them to do. They may not say it out loud, but you can see them frowning about it and giving little hints like, â€Å"it would be nice to have someone cooking a meal†. Another big problem is, to finding the time to schedule and to prepare meals. However, only having good intentions is not enough, I need to find a way to make it work. Many times we have to pick up prepared food or just grabbing a snack, which my son Anthony does not mind at all: however my husband is not always pleased with it. What I really miss is that I do not have time to do things for myself. I would like to socialize more, but that time is just not available. Many times I’m questioning myself as why I’m doing all this to myself? But I keep thinking about the reason why I started at the first place, and that make me forget all the trouble and enjoy it again.
